Road Restrictions for Southwestern Indiana during Fourth of July Holiday

Drivers urged to exercise caution in heavy Fourth of July traffic

VINCENNES, Ind. - Fourth of July is a heavy travel time for motorists along Indiana highways and interstates. The Indiana Department of Transportation is (INDOT) reminds motorists to drive safely and plan for potential heavy traffic during the upcoming holiday weekend.

From noon Thursday, July 3, until sunrise Monday, July 6, all maintenance activities and most construction projects will halt work to increase roadway safety in work zones. Work zones that are already set up will remain intact, but work will stop to improve traffic flow.

"Our crews will do all we can to continue to keep motorists moving smoothly along our roadways," said acting INDOT Vincennes District Deputy Commissioner Greg Ellis. "Motorists can help everyone have a safe holiday travel season by always wearing a seatbelt, following posted speed limits and watching out for changing road conditions."

Motorists can also log on to TrafficWise, INDOT's online system that provides live camera views of traffic conditions in the Indianapolis and Northwest Indiana metro areas. TrafficWise allows motorists to get online and check out traffic conditions on freeways before they leave their home. Go to www.in.gov/dot and click on the TrafficWise logo.
