Purina® Incredible National Dog Challenge® part of fair's opening weekend
Competition to be seen on ABC/ESPN
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana State Fair will play host to this year's Purina® Incredible Dog Challenge® on Aug. 7-8 in Celebration Park. This one-of-a-kind canine competition continues to attract incredible amounts of national attention in its 12th year of existence. This will be the first year that the Indiana State Fair has served as one of the competition's regional locations.
"The Indiana State Fair is one of the top fairs in the country," said Jadea Abolahrari, public relations manager for Nestlé Purina PetCare Company®. "The Challenge has never been in Indianapolis, so we are excited to travel to a new place and hopefully draw from a new pool of talent for the open qualifiers."
This Purina® Incredible Dog Challenge® is a series of televised competitions that feature "incredible dogs" competing in five different activities, including Freestyle Flying Disc, Diving Dog, Jack Russell Racing, Agility Competition and 60 Weave-pole Racing. The Challenge, which will be taped and televised by ABC/ESPN, serves as the Eastern Regional Championship with winners advancing to the national championship in St. Louis, Mo. The top three winners in each event will receive medals and coupons for free Purina® pet food.
Nearly 50 dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes will participate in the competition. Audiences will see dogs take a flying leap off of a dock into 19,000 gallons of water and vault off of their owners' backs in an attempt to snag a flying disc in mid-air. They'll also witness dogs maneuvering through an obstacle course featuring tire jumps, an A-frame, tunnels and see-saw. Finally, a field of Jack Russells will show off their speed as they jump over hurdles in an effort to be the first to cross the finish line.
