Bird Festival, Turkey Run SP, July 31 and Aug. 1

Take flight at Turkey Run State Park during Bird Fest 2009, on Friday evening, July 31.

This program features live hawks and owls, presented by Mark Booth of Take Flight Education. Start time at the park amphitheater near the Olympic pool is 7:30 p.m. The program is sponsored by The Friends of Turkey Run and Shades State Parks group.

On Saturday, Aug. 1, renowned Indiana birder Alan Bruner will lead a birding hike from the park's nature center porch starting at 8 a.m. Bruner will share bird identification tips and give advice on birding hot spots throughout the state.

Other activities on Aug. 1 include bird banding, bird kites, face painting, bird "Jeop-Birdy," bird feeders and backyard habitat. The day will culminate with an owl prowl night hike in the evening. Call (765) 597-2654 for more information.

There is no charge for any of the programs but the usual weekend gate fee of $5 per in-state vehicles and $7 per out-of-state vehicles will apply.
