The LMCGP is an annual competitive grants program that awards up to $650,000 to units of local government, regional and state agencies, colleges and universities as well as non-profit organizations.
Funds acquired through this program may be expended on low-cost construction, land acquisition, planning and coordination, education and outreach, applied research, and emerging issue projects. Projects must be located entirely within the coastal area, which is the northern portion of Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties. Funding requests can range from $100,000 to $150,000 per request, depending on project type. Proposals for 2010 funding are due Sept. 14, 2009.
The Lake Michigan Coastal Nonpoint Program was developed to address water-quality impairments in Indiana's coastal waters. Funding is available for projects that address Indiana's approved management measures in the Little Calumet-Galien Watershed of Northwest Indiana. Project categories include education and outreach, as well as planning and coordination. Funding requests can range up to $10,000 per request, depending on project type. Applications for 2010 funding also are due Sept. 14, 2009.
