Noon - Indiana Agriculture Director, Anne Hazlett, will attend the 2009 Indiana State Fair Media Luncheon. Lt. Governor Becky Skillman will speak.

Opening Day of the 2009 Indiana State Fair! More Days! More Fun!
"Year of the Tomato"

Every Day - Join ISDA at the Normandy Barn for family fun and information on how Indiana agriculture benefits every Hoosier, every day from the quality of your food, to the quality of your life, to ensuring a sustainable future for us all.  

You can also pick up your "passport" for a chance to win prizes! ISDA will be part of the Red Gold Passport to Health campaign, along with Clarian Health and INShape Indiana. Fairgoers will learn about healthy living and eating well when they visit three of the four healthy partner locations and get their "passport" stamped. They will be eligible to win a year's supply of Red Gold tomato products, lunch with Lt. Governor Becky Skillman and other prizes.  "Passports" are available at any of the participating booths, as well as at the Farm Bureau and 4-H Buildings.


Every Day ISDA will be a part of the Hoosiers Care booth at the Our Land Pavilion with the Lt. Governor's Family of Business .  Hoosiers Care is a statewide campaign designed to provide ideas on simple daily actions that people can take to save money and the environment. Each simple step can help improve air and water quality; conserve water and energy; and reduce waste. Each person's individual actions can add up to make a large, positive environmental change for Indiana's environment.


6:45 a.m. - Anne Hazlett will attend Indiana Pork's Ham Breakfast.
  US Representative Mike Pence (R) for Indiana's 6th Congressional District,
Governor Mitch Daniels and Lt. Governor Skillman will be speaking.
Indiana State Fair Party Tents (located by Gate 12 off of 42nd St.)

8:30 a.m. - Anne Hazlett and ISDA staff will attend Opening Day Ceremonies. Special guests will include Miss America 2009, Governor Daniels and Lt. Governor Skillman.
Red Gold Tomato Patch Gift Shop

Saturday, August 8

12:30   Anne Hazlett will join First Lady Cheri Daniels;  Selita Reichart, Red Gold vice president quality of work life; Pam Altmeyer, CEO of Gleanor's Food Bank and Mark Merkel, Indiana state fair board president , as a judge in Canstruction: One Can Make a Difference in Tomato Country®.  Ten teams of architects, engineers and students will compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food that ultimately will be donated to the Gleaners Food Bank.
