Disability Determination Bureau Leads Nation in Productivity

This month Indiana will be recognized for the fourth time in five years for leading the nation in providing accurate and timely decisions on disability claims, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA). The Disability Determination Bureau, a division within the Family and Social Services Administration's (FSSA) Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services, will receive the Social Security Administration Commissioner's Citation based on outstanding performance amidst the tremendous challenges faced due to increasing workloads and high attrition among examiner staff.

"We are committed to providing the best service we can to all Hoosiers with disabilities," said DDRS Director Peter Bisbecos. "During difficult economic times, it is especially critical that these services be provided in a timely, accurate manner and I would like to commend everyone at the Disability Determination Bureau for keeping up their tremendous efforts to do so."

In fiscal year 2008, the DDB reviewed 87,124 disability applications. Even with ever-increasing applications and workloads, the citation from SSA will note DDB's "exemplary performance in accuracy, timeliness, and productivity in providing exceptional service to the disabled citizens of Indiana."
