Sen. Yoder named ranking member of Senate Committee on Education and Career Development

STATEHOUSE (August 19, 2009) - President Pro Tem David C. Long (R-Fort Wayne) today appointed State Sen. Carlin Yoder (R- Middlebury) as ranking member of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Development.

Long said Yoder will fill the position left vacant by Sen. Dennis Kruse (R-Auburn) who was recently named chairman of the committee.

"With his life experience and sound judgment, Sen. Yoder will aid this committee in crafting legislation related to the financing and operating of Indiana's schools," Long said.  "As a knowledgeable school administrator, Yoder is a good choice to fill Sen. Kruse's shoes as ranking member."

Yoder joined the Indiana Senate in 2008. A graduate of Indiana University-South Bend, Yoder is an administrator at Clinton Christian Schools and owns Danceworks Academy in Goshen.

"To serve as a ranking member on the Senate Committee on Education and Career Development is an honor," Yoder said. "I am ready to take on a leadership role and work with other members as we confront education issues relating to curriculum and graduation requirements, teacher recruitment and qualifications and school safety.  I also look forward to examining higher education policy and focusing on accessibility, affordability and accountability."

Sen. Yoder represents Senate District 12, which includes portions of Elkhart County.
