At 6:00 a.m. Friday morning, August 21, Indiana State Police launched a district wide saturation patrol targeting impaired and dangerous drivers. Troopers at Evansville are responsible for patrolling Posey, Vanderburgh, Warrick, Pike, Gibson and Knox Counties. Saturation patrols ended at 4:00 this morning. Troopers issued 196 traffic tickets, 126 traffic warnings and arrested 10 impaired drivers. Indiana State Police, Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Deputies and Evansville Police also conducted a sobriety checkpoint this morning from 1:00 to 3:00 at Governor and John Street. During the checkpoint, troopers arrested Joseph L. Johnson, 25, of Evansville, for driving while intoxicated. Officers checked 38 other vehicles and issued three traffic tickets.
