The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) will give a presentation for the public about the development of a new, statewide antidegradation rule at 6 p.m., Wednesday, August 26, at the Jackson County Public Library, 303 W. Second Street, in Seymour, Ind.

IDEM's informational presentation will include:

. A brief history of Indiana's antidegradation policy;

. What has been done to develop a new rule for the policy's statewide implementation;

. An overview of the new rule;

. The steps in the formal process to finalize the new rule; and,

. Question and answer session with staff members from IDEM's Office of Water Quality.

"Although it's not time for the public to submit comments to IDEM about the draft antidegradation rule, we wanted to go ahead and provide information about the work that has been done and where we go from here," said Bruno Pigott, assistant commissioner of IDEM's Office of Water Quality. "Our presentation should be useful for individuals who intend to submit comments or people who simply want a better understanding of this technical and complex topic."

Visit IDEM's Antidegradation Web page at www.idem.IN.gov/5387.htm to find additional information, including a copy of the draft rule (with changes since 04/06/2009), a copy of the draft rule (clean) and the agency's response to comments from the first public comment period ("first notice").

Additional IDEM public presentations are scheduled on August 25 at City Hall in Garrett, Ind., and on September 21 at the Knox County Public Library (Fortnightly Building) in Vincennes, Ind.
