Sen. Waltz Appointed to Commission on Childhood Poverty

Local legislator tapped by Senate Leader for four key interim committees, commissions

STATEHOUSE (August 25, 2009) - Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) today appointed State Sen. Brent Waltz (R-Greenwood) as a member of the Commission on Childhood Poverty.

Long also tapped Waltz to serve as a member of the Workforce Innovation Council, Military Base Planning Council and Child Custody and Support Advisory Committee.

During summer and fall months when the legislature is not in session full-time, lawmakers utilize bipartisan interim study committees and commissions to conduct in-depth research into complicated, complex issues facing Hoosiers. Often their work results in solutions and legislation that might otherwise go unaccomplished during the fast pace of the winter- and springtime legislative session, Long said.

"Sen. Waltz has worked diligently on these and similar issues in the past and undoubtedly he will continue with that same commitment on these study committees and commissions," said Long. "Hoosiers from all of our districts will benefit from Sen. Waltz's diligence."

Waltz said he will closely watch developments of all study committees, review their recommendations and seek public input before the Indiana General Assembly reconvenes in January of 2010:

More information about committee topics, schedules and agendas will be available online at www.in.gov/legislative/interim.

Sen. Brent Waltz represents Senate District 36, which includes portions of Marion and Johnson counties.
