STARKE COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces State Road 10 (S.R. 10) between U.S. 421 and Starke County Road 500W will be closed during daylight hours Aug. 27. This will allow crews to perform chip-seal road maintenance construction.

During the closure, residents and businesses will be allowed to get to their properties, but through traffic will be detoured via posted signs. Eastbound S.R. 10 traffic will be directed to take U.S. 421 south to State Road 14 (S.R. 14) east to State Road 39 (S.R. 39) north and back to S.R. 10. Westbound traffic will be directed to take S.R. 39 south to S.R. 14 west to U.S. 421 north and back to S.R. 10.

The chip-seal process consists of distributing a liquid asphalt emulsion on the roadway and covering it with crushed stone to provide a new wearing surface. Chip-sealing extends the life of a roadway by protecting it from moisture, ultra-violet degradation and many other damaging exposures. Motorists should exercise caution during the construction of these projects. Loose stone will be present on the roadway during the initial cure of the asphalt and can damage windshields and paint on vehicles following each other too closely. It is recommended when traveling on a recently chip-sealed road to slow down and allow additional space between you and other motorists.
