POWER scholarships available for nontraditional female students

Scholarship fund created by female legislators to support Hoosier women

INDIANAPOLIS -State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Portage) is encouraging local female students to apply for a scholarship program organized by Indiana's female legislators.

The General Assembly's Political Organization for Women's Education and Representation (POWER) has created a scholarship fund specifically for women 25 years of age and older who are looking to enhance their lives through higher education. The intent of the POWER scholarship is to help women interested in gaining the skills necessary to earn a degree and advance their careers.

Two POWER Scholarships will be awarded in each of Indiana's nine congressional districts, one in the amount of $1,000 and another in the amount of $750. Online applications can be found at www.in.gov/power and are due by Nov. 15.

A three person board in each congressional district will select scholarship recipients. Winners will be announced by Dec. 15.
