STATEHOUSE (Nov. 2, 2009) - State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) today encouraged residents to join Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman's holiday season mail campaign for troops called "Hoosier Cheer for Our Heroes."

"Having a son in the military, I feel it is very important this year when you make out your card list that you remember Indiana's servicemen and women who will be spending the holidays away from their homes and families," Holdman said.

Skillman's office is collecting cards and will send them to Indiana troops around the world. Those who want to participate should send cards and letters (but no money or gifts) to Skillman's Statehouse office by Wednesday, Nov. 18, to the following address:

Holdman said Skillman's office received about 20,000 cards for troops last year and officials hope to top that this year.

"During a season of giving, it's important for us to remember those who are putting action behind our hopes for 'peace on earth," Holdman said. "I am thankful for our troops and hope many residents will take the time to express their appreciation to them through the lieutenant governor's wonderful program."
