Putnamville- The Indiana State police Putnamville Post hosted the first annual "trunk or treat" on Friday, October 30th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Trunk or treat is a safe alternative to traditional trick or treating and have become common with church groups and community organizations. Trunk or treating participants decorate the opened trunks or opened rear hatches of SUV's and pass out candy. Generally, each car has its own theme and it is up to the participant on what theme he or she wants to portray.
Despite the occasional heavy rains which forced the festivities to be held in the State Police Post garage bays, a fun and exciting time was had by the troopers and the trick or treaters.
Over 50 children along with their parents participated in the trunk or treat activities which included receiving candy, DNA Identification Kits, pencils and coloring books from the troopers and their families. Trooper Teddy, the Indiana State Police mascot, and an Indiana State Police motorcycle were also available to see and have pictures taken with.
"I am really please with the response we received for our first year despite the weather" stated the event coordinator Trooper Michael Wood. "We plan on making this a yearly event and building on the initial success."
