Indianapolis- The drivers of the vehicles in the two semi crash which snarled rush hour traffic on I-65 at the south split this afternoon have been identified. Steven Lembke, age 44 of Clarksville, MN. was operating a 2000 Kenworth northbound on I-65 near the Fletcher Street overpass. Larry Anderhoff, age 48 of Lincoln Park, MI. was driving his 2007 Western Star car hauler also northbound on I-65. Lembke was pulling a container trailer loaded with an empty container. As Lembke traveled under the Fletcher St. overpass the empty container struck the overpass and became separated from the trailer. Anderhoff, following Lembke, swerved to miss the empty container which was in the roadway and struck the west side of the overpass. Three of the cars on the car hauler became separated from the trailer and ended up in the roadway also.
Anderhoff was trapped in his vehicle for nearly an hour before being freed by emergency personnel from the Indianapolis Fire Department. Once freed from the wreckage Anderhoff was transported to Wishard Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Lembke was not injured.
Lembke was cited for operating an over height vehicle.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Indianapolis Fire Department, and INDOT.
Investigating Officer: Trooper Jordan Hall.
