PORTER and LAPORTE COUNTIES, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces various lanes in both directions of I-94 in Porter and LaPorte counties will be restricted during daylight hours today through Dec. 2. This will allow crews to perform crack sealing construction.
Crack sealing is the cleaning and sealing of open cracks or joints in asphalt pavement and shoulders to prevent the entry of moisture and debris, which can cause the pavement to deteriorate. Cracks are sealed using an asphalt material. Until this material fully cures, it can be tracked by vehicle tires. To mitigate this, crews often spread a light coat of sand over a freshly crack sealed pavement. This can briefly cause "flying grit" and some dust.
The work schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather. INDOT reminds motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, please visit www.in.gov/indot.
