INDIANAPOLIS-- Earlier this year State Senator Frank Mrvan (D-Hammond) was appointed to the Select Commission on Education which began meeting in April to review recent reforms and their implementation by the Indiana Department of Education.
The commission has reviewed a number of topics, including letter grade designations for schools that have been taken over by private management teams, known as "turnaround academies." The commission is also expected to hold hearings on recent changes to teacher evaluations and licensing rules, clarification of school instructional expense reporting, and school corporation disannexation.
Mrvan has also been appointed to the Interim Study Committee on Insurance, Interim Study Committee on Redistricting, Compliance Advisory Panel, Environmental Quality Service Council, Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs, Commission on Military and Veterans Affairs, Indiana Veterans' Affairs Commission.
Mrvan represents Indiana Senate District 1 which includes portions of Lake County. District 1 communities include Hammond, Munster, Highland, Dyer, Schererville and Griffith as well as two precincts in Crown Point. For more information on Sen.
