Randolph to participate in review of utility rates

Senator also appointed to committees on local government, courts, and tourism

INDIANAPOLIS-State Senator Lonnie M. Randolph  (D-East Chicago) has been appointed to serve on the Regulatory Flexibility Committee, a state body charged with monitoring changes and competition in the utility industries. The committee continually conducts reviews of service and pricing of energy utility services, including changes on residential rates and the effects of federal legislation on Indiana's industries.

The committee also provides legislative oversight to the Indiana Utility Regulation Commission (IURC), the state body responsible for approving utility rate increase requests and other regulatory matters.

This year Randolph has also been appointed to serve on the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations, Commission on Courts, and Tourism Council.

The Indiana General Assembly annually convenes interim study committees and permanent commissions to conduct in-depth research and analysis of issues affecting the state. Recommendations from these committees are often the basis for future legislation. More information about committee topics, schedules and agendas is available online at

Randolph represents Indiana Senate District 2 which encompasses portions of Lake County, including the communities of East Chicago, Whiting, and portions of Gary, Griffith, Hammond, Hobart and Merrillville.
