Recent boards and commissions appointments
Air Pollution Control BoardThe board can adopt, repeal, rescind or amend rules and regulations pertaining to air quality. Rules promulgated or recommended for repeal or amendment by the agency must be approved by the board.
Membership: eight gubernatorial appointees, Indiana Department of Natural Resources representative, Indiana Economic Development Corporation representative, Indiana State Department of Health representative, and a representative from the lieutenant governor's office
Governor's appointment:
- Jeff Quyle (Camby), Morgan County Commissioner and Hoosier Energy REC Economic Development Coordinator
Term expires May 1, 2008.
IndianaStateTeachers' Retirement Fund Board of Trustees
The board is responsible for the administration, control and management of the fund.
Membership: five gubernatorial appointees, director of the Indiana Office of Management and Budget
Governor's appointment:
- Cynthia Walsh (Crown Point), vice president and CFO of National Bond and Trust Company, Inc.
Term expires August 1, 2007.
IndianaEducation Employment Relations Board
The board administers the Certificated Educational Employee Bargaining Act by making determinations of what jobs are in the bargaining unit, conducting elections to determine the exclusive bargaining representative, processing unfair labor practice complaints filed by persons alleging that a part of the law has been violated, and providing mediators and fact-finders to assist the teachers and school board bargaining teams when they reach impasse in bargaining.
Membership: three gubernatorial appointees
Governor's appointment:
- Oren Skinner (Angola), development officer for Steuben County Community Foundation
Term expires July 1, 2008.
Emergency Response Commission
The commission is tasked with assisting the state in carrying out certain Superfund (SARA) mandates relating to hazardous material emergency management plans. The commission is also assigned to design and supervise the operation of emergency planning districts in Indiana.
Membership: nine gubernatorial appointees, Indiana Department of Environmental Management representative, Indiana Department of Homeland Security representative, Indiana State Police representative, and state fire marshal.
Governor's appointment:
- Chief Brian Lott (Fishers), fire chief for Fishers Fire Department
Appointee serves at the pleasure of the governor.
Wireless Enhanced 911 Advisory Board
The board determines how to best spend money raised through the collection of the enhanced 911 service fee paid by cellular customers so that the burden of providing wireless 911 service is evenly distributed throughout the state. The board may adjust the wireless emergency enhanced 911 fee that is assessed.
Membership: six gubernatorial appointees, Indiana State Treasurer
Governor's appointment:
- Michael Schulte (Huntington), director of Midwest technical operations for Centennial Wireless
Term expires May 1, 2007.
IndianaWar Memorials Commission
The commission is responsible for the designing, building and operating of the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument, University Park, World Wars Memorial, Veteran's Memorial Plaza, Vietnam and Korean Wars Memorial, American Legion Mall and the USS Indianapolis National Memorial. Each congressional district must be represented and each member must be a veteran of service in the armed forces of the Unites States.
Membership: 10 gubernatorial appointees
Governor's appointment:
- Ray Shearer (Indianapolis), erosion engineer for Crider & Crider, Inc., president and CEO of Anderson Cemetery, United States Marine Corps veteran
Term expires July 29, 2007.
Funeral and Cemetery Services Board
The board is responsible for regulating the practice of funeral and cemetery services. The board also has the authority to investigate any complaint alleging a violation.
Membership: 10 gubernatorial appointees, ISDH commissioner
Governor's Appointment:
- Sam Frain (Winamac), licensed funeral director and certified funeral service practitioner, owner of Frain Mortuary, Inc.
Term expires February 23, 2008.
