Governor Daniels issued this statement about the disturbance today at the New Castle Correctional Facility

"We're grateful the disturbance turned out to be relatively minor; the latest information I have received suggests there were no significant or serious injuries. I want to commend the superb professionalism of all who so effectively responded, starting with Commissioner Donahue, Department of Correction personnel, prison management, and the Indiana State Police. The nearby law enforcement agencies were also superb; mercifully, it turned out that their direct involvement was not needed, but in such a situation no precaution or effort can be spared.

"Corrections is a high risk business managing high risk offenders. Plans and protocols are in place to respond to just such an incident, and they were carried out well. These events always remind us of the unseen bravery and service of those who protect us by guarding those who have harmed society in the past."
