INDIANAPOLIS (July 20, 2007) - Governor Mitch Daniels today announced additional members of the Commission on Local Government Reform. Earlier this week, Daniels asked Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard and former Governor Joe Kernan to co-chair a bipartisan commission that will examine and make recommendations on reforming and restructuring local government.
New commission members include:
· Sue Anne Gilroy, Indianapolis, currently vice president of development of St. Vincent Hospital and executive director of the St. Vincent Foundation. She served as Indiana Secretary of State from 1994 to 2002.
· Dr. Adam Herbert, Bloomington, former president of Indiana University. He holds a doctorate in urban affairs and public administration.
· Louis Mahern, Indianapolis, served in the Indiana Senate from 1976 to 1992 and is currently self-employed.
· Ian M. Rolland, Fort Wayne, retired chair and chief executive officer of Lincoln Financial Group.
· John Stafford, Fort Wayne, director of the Community Research Institute at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. He served, for more than 20 years, in a variety of capacities in Fort Wayne and Allen County government.
"I'm appreciative that these highly respected and superbly qualified individuals have agreed to serve on the commission," Daniels said. "Hoosiers will greatly benefit from their recommendations on how local governments can increase the efficiency and effectiveness of their operations to lower taxpayer costs."
The commission will begin their work in August. In late December, they will publish a report to the citizens of Indiana. Their ideas will be available for the Indiana General Assembly to discuss during its next session beginning in January 2008.
