Governor to lead European trade mission in May

Governor to lead European trade mission in May

INDIANAPOLIS (March 17, 2007) ¿ Governor Mitch Daniels will take the story of Indiana¿s economic comeback to Germany and the United Kingdom when he leads a state delegation there in May. The governor¿s mission will call on several companies that have recently made investments in Indiana.

Just yesterday, a life sciences subsidiary of the U.K.-based Oxford BioSignals, Oxford BioSignals Medical, announced it would establish its headquarters here and bring 120 positions. And since 2005, Indiana has successfully competed for and won multi-million dollar investments from European companies that include British Petroleum, Rolls Royce and Thyssen Krupp.

Already, more than 52,000 Hoosiers are employed by the more than 150 companies based in the U.K. and Germany that have operations in Indiana.

¿We will go anywhere where there¿s a chance to insource jobs to Indiana. The last two years have been all-time records for inbound investments, proving our state can compete with any place in the world,¿ said Daniels.

The governor, with a small group of business and local leaders, will travel to Germany and the U.K., with a possible short stop in Paris, during the weeklong trip that will begin on May 12. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation has not yet determined the members of the official delegation.

Germany¿s capital investment of $8.6 billion in Indiana is second only to Japan ($8.7 billion), where the governor will travel for the third straight year in the fall. United Kingdom companies have invested $7.9 billion in Indiana.

A more detailed itinerary for the trip will be available in the coming weeks.
