Indianapolis, IN - Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita has hired Network Indiana Senior Anchor/Reporter Kate Shepherd to become his new communications director. Shepherd leaves the statewide radio network and its sister station WIBC-AM after more than 13 years covering state government and anchoring. The lifelong Indiana resident has also held positions at other Indianapolis stations including WISH-TV, WNDY-TV, and WAJC-FM. Shepherd graduated cum laude from Butler University in 1993. She replaces Cam Savage, who left the office in July to run a congressional campaign in western New York.
"Kate has been a working journalist for more than a decade," Rokita said. "She understands the deadline pressures reporters face and knows how to get them quick answers. She will also be a great asset to this office because of her vast knowledge of state government and her desire to help educate Hoosiers about the services we provide. Kate will definitely be able to hit the ground running."
Shepherd will begin her new duties August 30. "I'm really looking forward to learning about government from another perspective," Shepherd said. "The bonus is that I will be working so closely with the many friends I have made in the media around the state."
Starting August 30, she can be reached at 317-233-8655 or by e-mail at kshepherd@sos.IN.gov. Until then, please address all media inquiries to Deputy Secretary of State Heather Willis at 317-232-6584 or hwillis@sos.IN.gov.
