Opportunity offers current University of Indianapolis student chance to experience state government
(Indianapolis) – Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita is pleased to announce that Caitlin Mannan of Warsaw is currently completing the prestigious 2009 Indiana Secretary of State Internship Program. The summer-long program selects college and university students from around the state and allows them the opportunity to experience state government first-hand through the Secretary of State’s office.
“Caitlin exemplifies the kind of top-notch students we have here in Indiana,” Secretary Rokita said. “I feel that she is an individual who will help guide our state and country with her desperately-needed leadership in the coming years, and I’m thrilled to have her here, as she is a valuable addition to our office.”
As an Honors College student, Mannan is currently seeking a degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and a minor in religion. She is a member and president of the University of Indianapolis’ Circle K club and a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America.
Mannan cites the opportunity to sit in on a meeting between Secretary Rokita and the Chinese consul general from Chicago as a rewarding experience. She worked with team members to compile a follow-up letter to the consulate in order to cultivate pertinent communication lines between Indiana and the Chinese consulate.
“Interning with Secretary Rokita’s communications team has not only provided me with the opportunity to professionally supplement my communication degree, it’s given me a unique opportunity to experience our state government on a personal level – especially with the special session happening,” Mannan said. “The average citizen doesn’t always get the chance to experience our state government on such a level, so I’m truly honored to have the chance to personally meet with and work right alongside our state leaders.”
A 2006 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, Mannan is the daughter of John and Chris Mannan. She will graduate from the University of Indianapolis in 2010 and plans to attend graduate school, where she will most likely pursue a degree in environmental affairs or nonprofit management.
