FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 19, 2010
(Indianapolis) – Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita issued the following statement today upon announcing the close of the 2010 candidate filing period:
“Representative government cannot be conducted from the sidelines; it requires active participation. I would like to thank those Hoosiers who put their names on the ballot for the 2010 elections. As President Teddy Roosevelt said, ‘The credit belongs to the man in the arena…so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.’
Those who stand up and ask their fellow Hoosiers for the privilege of representing them in their government are to be commended. It is important that we recognize those who have the courage to lead by example and are willing to take on this civic responsibility.”
