Wabash Student Completes Fellowship with Secretary of State's Office

Indianapolis, IN - Secretary of State Todd Rokita today announced Andrew Wells of Portland has completed the 2005 Indiana Secretary of State Fellowship Program. The fellowship, a summer-long program, selects four undergraduate students from around the state and allows them the opportunity to experience state government first hand.

"Andrew's showed hard work and dedication as he displayed his leadership and ability to work in an environment that can be stressful yet rewarding," Rokita said. "He truly has been valuable addition to our team this summer as we continue our work to make this office a national model."

Wells is a senior at Wabash College, where he is seeking a history degree. He is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Vice President of the Student Senate, a member of the Sphinx Club, and a varsity swimmer.

Wells cites his work on developing and overseeing a plan to educate Secretary of State staff about the "Core Values" of the office as being his most rewarding project. He also recalls accompanying Secretary Rokita on an official visit to Wells' hometown of Portland as being his most memorable experience.

"The fellowship program has given me the opportunity to meet and work with government officials on a daily basis. It has also allowed me to gain the experience necessary to excel in a stressful work environment. I didn't just make copies all day; I was given many responsibilities and my performance was expected every day." Wells said.

Wells graduated from Jay County High School and is the son of J.C. and Nancy Wells. He will graduate from Wabash in 2006 and plans to attend law school in the future.
