Rokita Announces Appointment of Brian Burdick to Indiana Election Commission
Newest Commission Member will Serve as Chairman

Indianapolis, IN - Secretary of State Todd Rokita announced the appointment of Brian L. Burdick to the Indiana Election Commission. Burdick will occupy one of two seats reserved for representatives of the Republican Party. Burdick was nominated to the Commission by Indiana Republican Party Chairman Jim Kittle and appointed by Governor Frank O'Bannon to serve a two-year term.

Burdick will serve as Chair of the four-member Commission.

"Brian Burdick will be an excellent addition to the Indiana Election Commission. His depth of knowledge and experience make him superbly qualified to lead this body. I look forward to working with Brian and the members of the Indiana Election Commission as we continue to work to make Indiana's elections as fair, accurate and accessible as possible," Rokita said.

Burdick currently is an associate with the Indianapolis law firm Barnes and Thornburg, where he specializes in government services and public finance. Burdick previously served as deputy treasurer of state from 1991 to 1995. He holds a law degree from the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wabash College.

"I appreciate the confidence that Indiana Republican Party Chairman Jim Kittle, and Governor O'Bannon have placed in me and look forward to serving the State on the Indiana Election Commission," Burdick said.

The bipartisan Indiana Election Commission enforces Indiana's campaign finance reporting laws, decides questions of candidate eligibility for the ballot and certifies voting systems for marketing and use in Indiana elections.
