My American Farm
Grades: 5th - 6th Grade
Dates: August 12 - 15, 2014
Description: Fifth and Sixth Grade classrooms will dive into the world of food, fiber and energy with the My American Farm fieldtrip experience. Discover where your food comes from, how farmers care for the land, and how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics come to life in food, fiber and fuel production. Students will get first hand experience planting seeds as they participate in the Living Plant Necklace lab. Students will also step into the role of “Lead Mechanic” as they review images of common locations on the farm, and identify the machinery and tools needed to get the job done! Lastly, students will create their own faux flower pen, but this isn’t an ordinary pen – important scientific information is included on the leaf, that will help the student make connections to life long learning and science! Fieldtrip dates are August 12-15. The cost is $2.00 per student, includes fair admission, pre-registration is required.
