Allen County judicial applicant interviews September 25
On Wednesday, September 25, the Allen County Judicial Nominating Commission will conduct interviews of six applicants for an upcoming Allen County trial court judicial position in the Civil Division. The interviews will be held in Courtroom 107 at the Allen County Courthouse, 715 S. Calhoun Street, Fort Wayne. Interviews are open to the public with decorum rules in place.
The schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, September 25 (all times listed below are Eastern and approximate)
8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. – Executive Session to consider applications
8:45 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. – Public Session to honor Judge David Avery
9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. – Kevin Mitchell
9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. – Mag. Brian D. Cook
Break
10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. – David M. Lutz
10:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. – Michael A. Barranda
Break
11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. – Mag. Jason C. Custer
12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m. – Mag. Michael Douglass
12:30 p.m. – Lunch and Executive Session to consider applications, followed by public vote to select nominees
After all interviews have concluded, the commission, which is chaired by Supreme Court Justice Christopher Goff, will deliberate in a private executive session to consider applications. The commission considers applicants' legal education, writings, reputation in the practice of law, and other pertinent information. The commission vote is held publicly following deliberations.
According to Indiana law, the commission is required to submit to the Governor “the three most qualified candidates” for appointment when a vacancy arises. Details on the commission, including membership, are online.
