Chris Schepper took this photo during Independence Day weekend 2012 at Lake Lemon in Bloomington. He was visiting his parents Gary and Ann, who are longtime subscribers. Chris grew up in Bloomington but has lived in Denver for a few years. The family was boating to get a prime spot to view fireworks when the natural light stole the show. Chris, a registered nurse who aspires to be a professional photographer, used a Sony Nex 5 mirrorless camera to shoot these fellow revelers.
Anna Wilson of Lafayette used a Sony DSC-WX100 for this photo of a baby turkey vulture hissing to defend its area. The bird and a second baby vulture were found in the haymow of an old barn at the former Barcus Apple Orchard south of Crawfordsville. The discovery was made by Kim Jackson of South Portland, Maine, who lived on the property as a child with her grandparents. Anna and her husband John bought the place in 1991 when he retired from Tecumseh Middle School. They use it solely for gatherings with family, friends and the occasional angry bird.
