History of the Hospital
The Evansville Psychiatric Children’s Center was founded in October of 1966 and was intended to be one of several state operated facilities to serve Indiana’s emotionally disturbed children; however, it was the only one of these facilities that was actually fully completed and opened for services.
EPCC celebrated its 50th Anniversary on October 7, 2016, and since 1976 has maintained accreditation by The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services.
EPCC was also awarded a grant in 2008 by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration for the reduction of seclusion and restraint and since that time, has eliminated the use of seclusion and drastically reduced the use of manual restraints by 85 percent.
