A Farewell to Megan Compton and the IGIO's Commitment to Serving Indiana's Needs
The Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO) would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Megan Compton for her outstanding leadership as Indiana's Geographic Information Officer. After seven years at the helm, Megan is stepping down to take on an exciting new role as a Senior Policy Advisor with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) on the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC). While we will certainly miss her guidance, we are proud to see her advance geospatial efforts at the national level and wish her all the best in this next chapter.
A legacy of leadership
Megan's tenure as GIO has been marked by significant progress in geospatial collaboration, open data initiatives, and the expansion of Indiana's geospatial capabilities. Under her leadership, IGIO has strengthened partnerships across state and local agencies, enhanced access to critical geospatial data, and championed statewide programs like the IndianaMap, the Data Harvest, and Indiana's imagery and elevation programs. Her vision has helped solidify Indiana's role as a leader in geospatial data sharing and innovation.
The IGIO’s Commitment to Indiana
As we transition to this next phase, we want to assure the GIS community that IGIO remains steadfast in its mission as outlined in Indiana Code (IC 4-23-7.3) to support state agencies, local governments, and other stakeholders with reliable geospatial data and services. Our team will continue fulfilling our statutory obligations, ensuring Indiana's geospatial infrastructure remains strong and accessible. The core work of the IGIO will continue uninterrupted, including:
- Maintaining and improving statewide GIS data resources such as IndianaMap, orthoimagery, LiDAR, and address point data.
- Providing GIS support to state agencies to enhance decision-making, resource allocation, and public services.
- Collaborating with local governments to facilitate data sharing and ensure accuracy and consistency in spatial data.
- Engaging with the geospatial community through events like GIS Day and Legislative GIS Day, promoting education and awareness of GIS.
For any questions or support needs, please contact us at GISSupport@iot.in.gov. Our team is ready to assist and will continue to provide the same high level of service and expertise that Indiana's GIS community has come to expect.
