Apply for a SEED Grant Today

By the Indiana Geographic Information Office - February 28, 2025

Do you want to improve the quality of your county’s NG911, parcel and administrative boundary data but don’t have the funds for the resources to make it happen? The Indiana Geographic Information Office’s (IGIO) Sowing Enriched and Enhanced Datasets (SEED) grant may be a solution.

Why Data Quality Matters

Decisions based on inaccurate or incomplete data can lead to costly mistakes. For public safety and emergency response, land administration and transportation planning, accurate data matters.

  • Accurate data feeds into public safety and emergency response systems which leads to more coordinated and effective responses.
  • Accurate data is used in land administration and results in improved accuracy for land records and streamlined property tax assessments.

The SEED grant aims to provide needed funding to local governments to improve the quality of select spatial datasets to help counties reach the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) Standard for NG911 Data Model.

Here is What You Need to Know About the SEED Grant:

  • Timeline: The application period is open through January 6, 2026
  • Awards: There is a maximum of 8 awards per month while non-awarded additional submissions are carried over to the following month for consideration.
  • Period of Performance: Subrecipients have one-year (1-year) from the contract execution date to complete the work.
  • Funding*: Minimum award: $5,000 | Maximum Award: $30,000 | * Funding is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. Counties demonstrating an exceptional need may request additional funding, provided that extra funds are available.

*To receive funding for Priority Two or Priority Three projects, counties must provide verification that the data layers related to all higher priorities meet the success criteria.

Eligibility and Requirements

The grant is open to local county governments for use in improving countywide data. As these datasets reach across many agencies, collaboration is key in ensuring sustainable data management. It’s also important that the people performing the data improvements know what to look for. Therefore, anyone performing the data improvements must complete a knowledge assessment with a score of 80% or higher.

Measuring Success

Data improvement success will be measured by verifying of the accuracy of the schema and domains and by passing the data through various validation rules using the Datamark Validate-Edit-Provision (VEP) tool. Counties do not need to be familiar with the tool to apply for the grant.

  • The data follows the NG911 data schema
  • The fields are correctly populated
  • A minimum passing score is achieved when checked against the validation rules in VEP.

How to Apply?

Counties can review the program documentation and apply for the grant through the State Budget Agency (SBA) website.
