INDIANAPOLIS (November 22, 2005) The country of Taiwan today made a $50,000 donation for tornado relief efforts in southwestern Indiana. Governor Mitch Daniels accepted the donation to the American Red Cross from Dr. Tan Sun Chen, the Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The governor hosted Dr. Chen, a Purdue University alumnus, at a luncheon during the foreign ministers visit to the United States to visit the Taipei Economic and Cultural Offices.
Just as the neighbor-helping-neighbor response to the storms of southwestern Indiana has been typical Hoosier, this gesture of assistance is typically Taiwanese, said Daniels. This donation is evidence that our sister-state relationship is built on real bonds of affection. The news of this magnificent gesture will be very welcome.
