INDIANAPOLIS (March 24, 2005) ? The initial results for Rx for Indiana reported by Governor Daniels? office on March 18 were incorrect. Through March 23, more than 20,000 Hoosiers have been assisted by Rx for Indiana, the program that links Hoosiers to companies that provide free or significantly reduced-cost prescription medications.
?Even as corrected, the success of Rx for Indiana after launching less than three weeks ago, is fantastic. But a math mistake was made in the tabulation, and the governor wanted the correct information to be provided right away,? said Jane Jankowski, press secretary.
Last week, the governor?s office received information that nearly 33,000 Hoosiers had been helped since implementation of the program on March 8; however, it was determined this week that an incorrect mathematical tabulation of Web and telephone inquiries had been provided. Numbers that should have been reported as cumulative instead were provided as daily totals.
Here are the correct number of inquiries and initial qualifying matches through March 23:
- 30,766 people have contacted Rx for Indiana, 25,598 through the Web site and 5,168 by phone.
- 20,612 people (67 percent) have learned that they initially qualify for savings.
Rx for Indiana links patients with information about pharmaceutical assistance programs provided by various companies and through the state or federal government. Information about more than 275 public and private programs that provide more than 1,800 prescription medications is available.
Volunteers throughout the state are being trained to help others use the Rx for Indiana Web site, which is www.RxforIndiana.org. The Web site includes a Spanish-language version.
To reach Rx for Indiana by phone, use the toll free number 877/793-0765 (trained Spanish-speaking operators are available). Persons who are Deaf or hearing impaired may contact Rx for Indiana through Relay Indiana.
