INDIANAPOLIS (April 13, 2005)
– Governor Daniels today announced the appointment of an Indianapolis
native with a commitment to helping young people as the new executive director
of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (CJI). Attorney Heather Bolejack will
head the institute.
“Heather is an
outstanding young woman who is willing to interrupt a flourishing professional
career to answer the call to public service,” said Governor Daniels.
The institute is the
state’s planning agency for criminal justice, juvenile justice, traffic
safety, and victim services, and administers federal and state funds to carry
out long-range strategies. The governor has asked Bolejack to focus the
agency’s efforts as much as possible on his initiatives to stop the
spread of methamphetamine use.
Bolejack has worked as a litigation
associate at the Indianapolis
law firm of Ice Miller, practicing in the areas of drug and medical devices, as
well as insurance coverage. She also served as general corporate counsel for
McFadden Solutions Group and was a general litigation associate for Bingham
McHale.
“The Criminal Justice
Institute is a unique agency. We assist law enforcement agencies by providing funding,
training and assistance, and at the same time, help measure the effectiveness
of Indiana’s criminal justice efforts,” said Bolejack.
Bolejack earned her
undergraduate degree in Spanish and journalism from Butler University.
She was named the Lugar Scholar, which is awarded to the top minority female
student in Indiana.
She earned her law degree from the Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis, and
received the Zazas Award, a full academic merit scholarship. She also served as
the Chief Justice of Moot Court.
Bolejack will begin her duties
on April 20.
