IURC Nominating
Committee to Re-Open Application Period
With
the announcement today (July 15) that Judith Ripley will resign to become
director of the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions, the Indiana
Utility Regulator Commission has a second vacancy.
The
vacancy will be filled as part of the recently-commenced process to fill the
vacancy that will be created when current IURC Chairman William McCarty steps
down. Under state law, the IURC
Nominating Committee, composed of seven members appointed by the governor and
legislative leadership, selects three nominees per vacancy and submits those
names to the governor. As prescribed, six names will now be submitted to the
governor, from which he must choose two for appointment.
Michael
Sample, the chair of the Nominating Committee said the committee will reopen
the application period for prospective candidates.
?With
the change in circumstances, it is appropriate that we reopen the application
process,? said Sample.
The
committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday, July 21, to interview candidates
who applied on notice of the first vacancy. Sample said that the new application
period would remain open until July 28, a closing date that he will ask the
full Committee to ratify when it meets on the July 21.
