testifying before members of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC)
during a hearing Wednesday (August 1
INDIANAPOLIS (August 8, 2005) – Governor Mitch Daniels
and Mayor Bart Peterson will join members of Indiana’s Congressional
delegation in testifying before members of the Base Realignment and Closure
Commission (BRAC) during a hearing Wednesday (August 10) in Washington, D.C.
Introduced by U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar, the governor will lead
the Indiana group that will appear before the
BRAC Commission to discuss the Defense Finance and Accounting Center (DFAS) in Lawrence.
Senator Lugar will testify first, followed by Gov. Daniels,
U.S. Reps. Dan Burton and Julia Carson and Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson. Indiana
is allotted one hour by the commission for testimony on the Indianapolis-area
facility.
On Aug. 3, BRAC commissioners Secretary Sam Skinner and
General Lloyd Newton traveled to Fort Benjamin Harrison to conduct a site visit
of the DFAS Center. Lieutenant Governor Becky
Skillman and Mayor Peterson led a group that met with commissioners. The
commission will continue its information-gathering and analysis with this
hearing.
The Indiana portion of the hearing is scheduled to begin at
8:30 a.m. (EDT) in room 216 of the Hart Senate Office
Building. The governor
will be available to meet with media representatives immediately following the Indiana portion of the
meeting outside the meeting room.
