September 15, 2005

 

State Government Action:

  • This morning 48 members of Operation Hoosier Relief departed Indiana for Camp Indiana.  The group includes: 43 health professionals and 5 staff members from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

 

  • Friday, 70 law enforcement officers from Indiana (35 State Police and 35 local law enforcement officers) and 37 officers from the Department of Natural Resources will leave the state for Camp Indiana.

 

  • The current relief team will depart Biloxi on Saturday and return to Indiana.

 

  • Indiana State Government continues processing applications for services by evacuees residing in Indiana.  Applications have been received from 194 people in 16 counties.

 

  • The state has authorized $23,688 in food stamps, $2,878 in TANF payments, and eight Medicaid cases.

 

Mission Assignments:

  • Conservation officers arrested an alligator poacher, continued boat patrols, and assisted in a Navy dive to check sunken boats for victims.

 

  • IDNR Forestry crew cleared trees and debris from the Jefferson Davis home property.  Two Indiana Conservation Officers also participated to help secure artifacts from the home.

 

  • Medical teams treated 600 patients and dispensed 350 shots. 

 

  • Medical teams also visited three apartment complexes and established a second medical clinic in a Boys and Girls Club.

 

  • Indiana State Police provided aid to 34 vehicles, and made two looting arrests.

 

Evacuee Assistance:

  • Indiana is currently home to an estimated 3,100 evacuees.

 

  • Indiana is encouraging all evacuees residing in Indiana to call the following toll-free number to register with the state and make themselves available for state assistance – 866-679-4631.
