Be sure that each room is receiving adequate air supply; the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) have developed a guideline of recommended ventilation supply per room, the table can be found in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Tools For Schools Ventilation Checklist.
Provide additional exhaust ventilation for mechanical rooms, copy/work rooms, arts and crafts preparation areas, science laboratories, and vocational areas where off-gassing from large amounts of materials or products may occur.
Outdoor air dampers should be at least partially open (minimum position) during occupied hours and be sure that an adequate amount of outdoor air is supplied for the occupants.
To reduce excess moisture run air-conditioners during periods of high humidity.
Replace furnace filters every six months or according to manufacturer recommendations, consider replacing filters with pleated electrostatic air filters which will capture more particulates.
Inspect and maintain the ventilation system ducts to be sure the system is clear of debris, mold and dust.
Locate outdoor air intakes away from pollutant sources and prevent blockage. Be sure intake screens are accessible for inspection and cleaning.
Do not operate exhaust systems when the HVAC system is turned off to avoid bringing in unconditioned moist air that may condense on cooler indoor surfaces.
