Highlights
Induced Termination of Pregnancy
· There were 12,272 terminated pregnancies reported in Indiana in 2000.
· Of the 12,272 women who had a pregnancy terminated, 11,767 (95.9%) were Indiana residents.
· 7,488 (61.0%) of the women were white, 3,180 (25.9%) were black, 295 (2.4%) were of “other” races, and 1,309 (10.7%) were of unknown race (Indiana occurrences).
· 9,834 (80.1%) of the women were non-Hispanic origin, 646 (5.3%) were of Hispanic origin. Hispanic origin was unknown for 1,792 (14.6%) of the women who had a terminated pregnancy (Indiana occurrences).
· 8,926 (72.7%) of the women who had a pregnancy terminated were not married and 1,618 (13.2%) were married. Marital status was unknown for 1,728 (14.1%) of the women who had a terminated pregnancy (Indiana occurrences).
· 34.5% (4,228) of the women terminating a pregnancy were 20-24 years, 23.0% (2,824) were 25-29 years, 12.2% (1,500) were 30-34 years, and 11.8% (1,453) were 18-19 years of age. Less than 1% (92) were under the age of 15, 5.9% (728) were 15-17 years of age, 7.4% (909) were 35-39 years of age, and 2.5% (307) were age 40 or more (Indiana occurrences). Age was unknown for 1.9% (231).
· In 2000, 11,639 (94.8%) of the terminations were performed in clinics; 633 (5.2%) were performed in hospitals (Indiana occurrences).
