INDIANA INDUCED TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY REPORT
2002
Highlights
- There were 10,937 terminated pregnancies reported in Indiana
in 2002. For additional details, see Table 1a.
- Of the 10,937 women who had a pregnancy terminated (Indiana
occurrences):
- 10,398 (95.1%) were Indiana residents (Table 1b).
- 6,971 (63.7%) of the women were white, 2,954 (27.0%) were black, 236 (2.2%) were of other races,
and 776 (7.1%) were of unknown race (Table 1a).
- 8,646 (79.1%) of the women were non-Hispanic in origin, 651 (6.0%) were of Hispanic origin. Ethnicity
was unknown for 1,640 (15.0%) of the women (Table 1a).
- 8,057 (73.7%) of the women who had a pregnancy terminated were not married, and 1,538 (14.1%) were married. Marital
status was unknown for 1,342 (12.3%) of the women (Table 1a).
- At the time of termination (Indiana occurrences):
- Less than 1% (65) of the women were under the age
of 15;
- 5.9% (641) were 15-17 years of age;
- 10.9% (1,189) were 18-19 years of age;
- 35.5% (3,881) were 20-24 years of age;
- 22.7% (2,487) were 25-29 years of age;
- 13.5% (1,478) were 30-34 years of age;
- 7.3% (793) were 35-39 years of age;
- 2.6% (284) were age 40 or more; and
- Age was unknown for 1.1% (119).
- In 2002, 10,381 (94.9%) of the terminations were performed
in clinics; 555 (5.1%) were performed in hospitals (Indiana occurrences). See Table 11.
