INDIANA INDUCED TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY REPORT
2003
Highlights
- There were 11,458 terminated pregnancies reported in Indiana
in 2003. For additional details, see Table
1a.
- Of the 11,458 women who had a pregnancy terminated (Indiana
occurrences):
- 10,936 (95.4%) were Indiana residents (Table
1b).
- 7,222 (63.0%) of the women were white; 3,137 (27.4%)
were black; 239 (2.1%) were of other races; and 860 (7.5%)
were of unknown race (Table 1a).
- 9,037 (78.9%) of the women were non-Hispanic
in origin; and 728 (6.4%) were of Hispanic origin. Ethnicity
was unknown for 1,693 (14.8%) of the women (Table
1a).
- 9,125 (79.6%) of the women who had a pregnancy
terminated were not married; 1,681 (14.7%) were married. Marital
status was unknown for 652 (5.7%) of the women (Table
1a).
- At the time of termination (Indiana occurrences):
- Less than 1% (72) of the women were under the age
of 15;
- 4.9% (558) were 15-17 years of age;
- 10.5% (1,198) were 18-19 years of age;
- 35.7% (4,087) were 20-24 years of age;
- 21.6% (2,480) were 25-29 years of age;
- 14.5% (1,662) were 30-34 years of age;
- 7.5% (865) were 35-39 years of age;
- 2.9% (329) were age 40 or older; and
- Age was unknown for 1.8% (207).
- In 2003, 10,966 (95.7%) of the terminations were performed
in clinics; 492 (4.3%) were performed in hospitals (Indiana
occurrences). See Table
