INDIANA INDUCED TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY REPORT
2004
Highlights
- There were 10,514 terminated pregnancies reported in Indiana
in 2004. For additional details, see Table
1a.
- Of the 10,514 women who had a pregnancy terminated (Indiana
occurrences):
- 10,036 (95.5%) were Indiana residents (Table
1b).
- 6,628 (63.0%) of the women were white; 2,945 (28.0%)
were black; 375 (3.6%) were of other races; and 566 (5.4%)
were of unknown race (Table 1a).
- 7,851 (74.7%) of the women were non-Hispanic
in origin, and 738 (7.0%) were of Hispanic origin. Ethnicity
was unknown for 1,925 (18.3%) of the women (Table
1a).
- 8,661 (82.4%) of the women who had a pregnancy
terminated were not married; 1,663 (15.8%) were married. Marital
status was unknown for 190 (1.8%) of the women (Table
1a).
- At the time of termination (Indiana occurrences -
Table 1a):
- Less than 1% (48) of the women were under the age
of 15;
- 4.9% (514) were 15-17 years of age;
- 10.6% (1,112) were 18-19 years of age;
- 35.1% (3,695) were 20-24 years of age;
- 22.6% (2,375) were 25-29 years of age;
- 13.9% (1,460) were 30-34 years of age;
- 7.7% (806) were 35-39 years of age;
- 3.1% (320) were 40 years of age or older; and
- Age was unknown for 1.8% (184).
- In 2004, 10,030 (95.4%) of the terminations were performed
in clinics; 484 (4.6%) were performed in hospitals (Indiana
occurrences). See Table
