INDIANA INDUCED TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY REPORT
2009
Highlights
- There were 10,557 terminated pregnancies reported in Indiana
in 2009. For additional details, see Table
1a.
- Of the 10,557 women who had a pregnancy terminated (Indiana
occurrences):
- 10,081 (95.5%) were Indiana residents (Table
1b).
- 6,657 (63.1%) of the women were white; 3,155 (29.9%)
were black; 484 (4.6%) were of other races; and 261 (2.5%)
were of unknown race (Table 1a).
- 9,416 (89.2%) of the women were non-Hispanic
in origin, and 715 (6.8%) were of Hispanic origin.
Ethnicity was unknown for 426 (4.0%) of the women (Table
1a).
- 8,844 (83.8%) of the women who had a pregnancy
terminated were not married; 1,676 (15.9%) were married.
Marital status was unknown for 37 (0.4%) of the women (Table
1a).
- At the time of termination (Indiana occurrences -
Table 1a):
- Less than 1% (61) of the women were under the age
of 15;
- 5.4% (567) were 15-17 years of age;
- 10.5% (1,104) were 18-19 years of age;
- 33.9% (3,575) were 20-24 years of age;
- 23.8% (2,509) were 25-29 years of age;
- 14.5% (1,527) were 30-34 years of age;
- 8.7% (918) were 35-39 years of age;
- 2.7% (287) were 40 years of age or older; and
- Age was unknown for 0.1% (9).
- In 2009, 10,234 (96.9%) of the terminations were performed
in clinics; 323 (3.1%) were performed in hospitals (Indiana
occurrences). See Table
