INDIANA INDUCED TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY REPORT
2012
Highlights
- There were 8,808 terminated pregnancies reported in Indiana
in 2012. For additional details, see Table
1a.
- Of the 8,808 women who had a pregnancy terminated (Indiana
occurrences):
- 8,318 (94.4%) were Indiana residents (Table
1b).
- 5,310 (60.3%) of the women were white; 2,487 (28.2%)
were black; 135 (1.5%) were of other races; and 876 (9.9%)
were of unknown race (Table 1a).
- 7,485 (85.0%) of the women were non-Hispanic
in origin, and 641 (7.3%) were of Hispanic origin.
Ethnicity was unknown for 682 (7.7%) of the women (Table
1a).
- 7,467 (84.8%) of the women who had a pregnancy
terminated were not married; 1,213 (13.8%) were married.
Marital status was unknown for 128 (1.5%) of the women (Table
1a).
- At the time of termination (Indiana occurrences -
Table 1a):
- Less than 0.5% (34) of the women were under the age
of 15;
- 3.6% (321) were 15-17 years of age;
- 8.7% (764) were 18-19 years of age;
- 33.4% (2,941) were 20-24 years of age;
- 25.1% (2,210) were 25-29 years of age;
- 15.9% (1,404) were 30-34 years of age;
- 8.8% (771) were 35-39 years of age;
- 3.6% (315) were 40 years of age or older; and
- Age was unknown for 0.5% (48).
- In 2012, 8,763 (99.5%) of the terminations were performed
in clinics; 45 (0.5%) were performed in hospitals (Indiana
occurrences). See Table
