MARRIAGE REPORT
· There were 47,587 marriages performed in the state in 2000.
· The most frequent months for marriages were June (12.3%), July (11.9%), September (11.5%), May (10.0%), and August (9.9%).
· Counties with the highest rate of marriages per 1,000 population age 15 and older were Steuben (19.5), Scott (17.1), and LaGrange (15.7).
· More marriages occurred on Saturday (59.1%) than on any other day of the week. However, civil marriages were more likely to occur on Friday, while religious marriages were more likely to occur on Saturday.
· The average age at marriage for brides and grooms who had never been married before was 24.6 and 26.5 years, respectively.
· Only 48.1% of marriages were first marriages for both the bride and the groom. Approximately 25% of marriages were subsequent to a divorce for both the bride and the groom. In another 49.5% of marriages, one or the other participant had been previously divorced. In 5.0% of marriages, the bride, the groom, or both had been previously widowed.
· 11.6% of marriages were second marriages for both the bride and the groom; 8.0% were first marriages for the bride and second marriages for the groom; 8.5% were first marriages for the groom and second marriages for the bride.
