With Indiana’s long tradition of talented composers, singers and pop stars – from Hoagy Carmichael and Cole Porter to the Jacksons and Axl Rose makes Elkhart an established music event such as the Elkhart Jazz Festival a natural tie to the state’s history. The Bicentennial Commission’s endorsement will elevate plans to feature Hoagy Carmichael during performances and place emphasis on songs like “Back Home Again in Indiana,” “On the Banks of the Wabash,” and others with significant meaning to Hoosiers during sets.
