“Sustainable Indiana 2016” is a Bicentennial citizen initiative of Earth Charter Indiana, Inc. The mission is to inspire and advance sustainable, just and peaceful living in Indiana by promoting the values and principles of Earth Charter. The aim of Sustainable Indiana 2016 is to discover, document, catalogue, and celebrate Hoosier-based climate solutions/sustainability innovations as a bicentennial legacy.

Q&A with Legacy Project Coordinator John Gibson

What do you consider the key accomplishment of your Legacy Project?

  • 200 Green Lights documented and celebrated as a Bicentennial Legacy, a book titled "Explore Sustainable Indiana: Hoosier Solutions to the Climate Crisis," 250 Trees of Hope planted and dedicated, an album of 16 Hoosier artists singing "Songs of Sustainable Indiana"

Describe a highlight or most memorable moment related to your Legacy Project.

  • Having 9 regional celebrations over two months at the end of 2016, where 200 of Indiana's Green Lights (sustainable leaders) were inducted into the Bicentennial Green Legacy Hall of Fame.

How/where are you preserving information and artifacts related to your Legacy Project?

  • Green Light stories will be stored on the Earth Charter Indiana website, a box containing the book ("Explore Sustainable Indiana"), the CD ("Songs of Sustainable Indiana"), brochures, copies of certificates, will be stored in the Earth Charter Office. Links to Documentary videos will be posted on the Earth Charter Indiana website (www.earthcharterindiana.org), and a copy of the book and album will be provided to the State Library (Indianapolis Public Library also has 10 copies).

  • 280.

Estimated total attendance.

  • 700 in 2016 alone.
