In 1916, the first Indiana chapter of the National Society of the American Revolution (NSDAR), the Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter, placed an Indiana Centennial monument near the center of the south lawn of the Indiana State House grounds by west Washington Street, commemorating the importance of the National Road built between 1811 and 1834. In honor of Indiana’s Bicentennial, the Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter, NSDAR showcases this historic monument through restoration and re-dedication in the spring of 2016, supporting NSDAR’s commitment to the preservation of the America’s story and historic legacy.
